I’m Ryan C. Born, and I have been a private tutor for nearly 7 years, starting in November 2017. Since those humble beginnings, I have tutored for some 2400 hours, with over 300 students. When you work with me, you are getting the experience and knowledge that comes from a modern Princeton alum, philosopher, and someone in the advanced stages of their doctoral work at a premier research institution.
My specialties are the Digital SAT, ACT, LSAT, IB/AP Economics, IB/AP US/Euro/World Histories, and AP US Government. I’ve also tutored for college level philosophy courses and business courses, as well as calculus, algebra, writing, logic, AP Physics, and general science.
What I Do
My goal is to prepare my students for their exams or classes. While I can never guarantee a student will get a particular score or grade, I always guarantee that I am doing what I think will most promote a student’s success. I take a craftsman’s pride in my teaching — you are getting the best, and I take a quiet pride in my students’ successes.
This means students can expect that we will be reviewing and learning from material they prepare before hand, such as a test or problem they attempted before. Once we learn the strategies and concepts relevant, students will do similar tests or problems again. This cycle of active learning and reflective practice is how improvements are made.
How To Get Started
If you’re interested in learning more or starting with an email consultation, please reach out at my email. My email is simply my name, ryancborn, and is a yahoo account. I offer a 30 minute consultation as part of the introductory session, wherein you have the choice to continue for the full paid session, or forgo service — no questions asked and of no charge.
I offer the following rates for the following services:
Test Prep (1.5 hour sessions)
School Classes (1 hour sessions)
LSAT: $100/hr
Digital SAT/ACT: $80/hr
AP/IB Class: $60/hr
Other: $50/hr
I’m happy to offer a referral bonus and discount to both the referrer and the referee once they have scheduled and completed four paid sessions with me. This is a 10% discount and a 10% bonus. So if you refer a student for the LSAT, they will get $40 off the first $400, and you will receive $40.
Testimonials
I would like to start off with a thank u so much for helping me study for the SAT. Furthermore I would like to express how much I appreciate you matching my energy throughout our tutoring sessions and I apologize for making you wake up so early in the morning some days. Thank you for helping me with things that weren’t in ur job description such as college apps, ACT, being a therapist (although we’re literally the same person in so many ways so it was slightly unavoidable.)
Formalities aside… I GOT INTO CORNELL EARLY DECISION WHOOP WHOOP 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉I am now Cornell bound.

Ryan has been extremely helpful when it comes to tutoring. Not only has he helped me with my AP classes, such as AP US History, but he is also guiding me through SAT preparation. Ryan’s tutoring method is affective and comprehensible. He creates a judgement free environment where I am actually excited and interested in learning. Ryan keeps a professional attitude while still being friendly and easy going. We have worked through many issues I was facing in school, and I believe my work ethic and work quality have improved since working with Ryan.

Even over the computer, Ryan’s ability to tutor has not diminished. Ryan has helped me with SAT prep as well as AP calculus, and I have improved in both areas greatly. I went from a 990-1270 which I never thought was possible but with the skill set he instilled in me I was able to get there. By the end of our time together I was in the 1400 range on my practice tests, but due to COVID I was never able to take the test. Ryan is flexible on his timing and all the time spent has been productive and worthwhile.

I’ve known Ryan since he was an undergraduate at Princeton and started helping my daughter with general school assignments. Since that time, Ryan has taken the lead on helping her with her schoolwork and prepping for college-related activities, from guiding her on coursework and regular tutoring in areas that require development to signing up and prepping for college exams. Given that I have a very busy schedule, I’ve been able to leave this parenting “bucket” to him. My only wish is that he still lived locally because my daughter and Ryan now only connect via Zoom, but the bright side is that she is able to continue with him!

Ryan has helped me so much throughout my tutoring sessions with him. I’ve learned a great deal from him! He is very resourceful and brought up my score up from 850 to 1150.

Ryan Born was a great match for my son. He provided excellent lessons to prepare my son for his first sitting for the SAT test in a short period of time. He was able to get to know my son personally and help bring out the best in his abilities.
